The future of the treatments of obesity

The Science and Technology Department of the French Embassy in the UK is pleased to announce the next scientific public lecture, given in English.

The future of the treatments of obesity

Seminar given by Prof. Steve Bloom, Imperial College, London and Prof. Philippe Froguel, Institut Pasteur, Lille.

Obesity has become such a major public health problem in the industrialised world that the World Health Oganisation currently talks about "obesity epidemics". It is well acknowledged that this disease results from interactions between environmental and genetic factors. While current research unravels the secrets of the regulation of the appetite as well as the neural pathways of body weight regulation, the identification of a possible "gene of obesity" may prove helpful for the development of new therapies. Presenting two complementary approaches, the speakers will discuss their views on tomorrow’ treatment of obesity.

The two presentations will be followed by a drink reception.
