Today just watching a legal series like Outlaws (UK) or Ally McBeal (US) is sufficient for audiences to acquire criteria about how their legal system works. What are the characteristics of these television fictions which make them so effective and informative ? How do they advance a citizen’s awareness of legal issues at the same time as they enhance his/her skills as a television viewer ?
These and other questions will be discussed during an exchange between Tony Garnett, the well-known television producer, and Professor Barbara Villez (Paris 8), the author of Séries télé : visions de la justice (PUF, 2005).
