Open Source and Free Softwares: a success story?

‘Open Source’ is well-known as an open exchange of software code and other forms of informations. But is this ‘free of charge’ model sustainable? Volunteer softwares challenge the intellectual property ownership and imply the evolution of governance in the knowledge creation and distribution.
Despite the economic complexity of softwares markets, the ‘open source activity’ have already become a new viable alternative to the major software vendors and a prevalent force in numerous markets.
