Extremely premature babies: challenges in perinatal care

As part of the “Anglo-French scientific discussion seminars” spanning all domains of science, the Science and Technology Department of the French Embassy in the UK was pleased to organise the seminar « Extremely premature babies: challenges in perinatal care »

This seminar was given by Prof John Wyatt, University College London Hospital, Dr Nicola Robertson, University College London, and Prof Olivier Baud, Inserm and Hôpital Robert Debré, Paris.

Despite dramatic improvement in the perinatal care of the most premature babies, neurological impairment incidence remains high. Come and learn how, using different approaches, scientists try to save these babies.

Dr. Baud investigates the role of oxidative stress in the immature white matter in the brain and his findings could lead to new neuroprotection strategies in the near future. Dr. Robertson and Prof. Wyatt study the role of regional brain temperature in newborn and develop cooling protocols that could influence neuropathological outcome during post-ischaemic period .
